Jack Gaughan - King of the World’s Edge
Looking through the latest in-progress version of the Guide to Glorantha, I am reminded that while as a backer I’ve been impatient at times, it is far better that the Moon Design team do this the right way, rather than the expedient way.
The maps, the text, the illustrations – all of it are astounding. When they ship the final product, it’s going to knock people’s socks off.
Kuo-Toa defend the idol of Blibdoolpoolp, Sea Mother. (Jim Roslof, from the combined version of AD&D module D1-2: Descent into the Depths of the Earth, TSR, 1981.)
Really really enjoyed this module series. Our characters were so absolutely badass. I miss that group.
Red Dragon by Larry Elmore, painted for the cover of the Mentzer edition of the Basic D&D rules, 1983, inlcuded as an 8x10 print with some KIckstarter packages of The Complete Elmore, 2013. In the book the artist recalls a visit to Gary Gygax’s office:
"I have a problem." I explained that he and I could go back and forth for the rest of the year, if I kept doing drawings and he continued to disapprove them. I asked him what he envisioned for this new D&D box cover. He thought a second, then leaned over his desk — still smiling — and threw his arms out to his sides, bent his elbows forward toward me and made his hands look like claws. Then he said, "I want something simple that will jump out at ya!"
I cut this picture out of the front of this box set so I could have it on my bedroom door.
